Solitude: On Being Discarded

our connection
    (built on two lifetimes
     of history)
should have been
    deeper
    stronger

now there is no more "we"
    the "me" half
      of what once was
        discarded as worthless

alone, I wonder what it might mean
    to embrace solitude
